Commission guidelines on EMFA declaration functionality

Communication from the Commission – Commission guidelines on the implementation of the declaration functionality for media service providers pursuant to Article 18 (1) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1083 (European Media Freedom Act)

The Communication sets out Commission guidelines on how media service providers should implement the declaration functionality required under Article 18(1) of the European Media Freedom Act. It clarifies the practical and technical implementation of this mechanism, through which media service providers self-declare their compliance with editorial independence and transparency requirements to very large online platforms.
