Draft guidelines on high-risk AI classification

Draft Commission guidelines on the classification of high-risk AI systems

The draft guidelines set out the Commission's interpretation of concepts relevant to classifying AI systems as high-risk under Article 6 of the AI Act, structured around the two classification routes: Article 6(1), covering AI systems that are safety components of products subject to EU harmonisation legislation and third-party conformity assessment (Annex I), and Article 6(2), covering AI systems falling within the specific use cases listed in Annex III. They include practical, non-exhaustive examples of systems that should or should not be classified as high-risk under each route.
